Second Round:
This JW Hunt Cup fixture was effectively all over after half an hour
as Hayes stormed into a four goal lead.
An early corner on the left from Joe McNulty was headed home by Ben
Porter. Five minutes later Star keeper Alan Pringle had to race from
his line to foil Chris Geldart but his clearance landed at the feet of
Porter who cooly lifted the ball over the stranded keeper and into the
net from 45 yards.
A fine move down the left ended with fullback Luke Jones' superb cross
being hammered home by Porter to give him a 20 minute hat trick.
Hayes continued to dominate and several guilt edged chances went
begging with leading scorer Dave Waple the main culprit. However Chris
Geldart finished off another fine move to put the home side four up
after just an half hours play.
Hayes introduced three subs at the break and continued to control the
game but had a few anxious moments late on when James Haven scored in
the 85th and 87th minute but the home side had enough in hand to see
the game out.
